Canterbury's impressive home form continued on Saturday with a 4-0 thrashing of Cray Valley in the Vandanel Kent County League Premier Division at Hersden.

City moved into sixth following the win, their third on the spin at home in all competitions.

Canterbury had a great chance to take a fourth-minute lead through Dave Read but he failed to convert under pressure.

Read continued to be a threat and he had another good effort blocked after skipping past a couple of tackles.

City did go ahead through Nick Lingham after Cray failed to clear.

Cray came close to equalising but a great clearance off the line from Sam Baker kept the lead intact.

Read finally got on the scoresheet after the break with a header from Joe Smith’s corner. Ten minutes later it was 3-0 when Read’s shot was blocked en route but Royston Gough converted from close range.

A fourth came moments later as the Cray keeper failed to hold Scott Lawford’s ball forward and, after clashing with Gough, the ball trickled in over the line.
