Whitstable Town edged closer to Ryman League Division 1 South safety after a surprise 1-0 win at Godalming Town.

Missing three players who were delayed by an accident on the way to the game, Town could have taken the lead through reserve team call-ups Dave Stubbs and Stephen Baines, before they finally broke the deadlock after 20 minutes.

Tom Parker's flighted free-kick was nodded back across goal by Stephen Lloyd for Dave Cory to head past the stranded keeper.

Kevin Fewell superbly tipped a low shot onto the bar in a rare chance for the home side while Oystermen boss Mark Munday, pictured, played the full 90 minutes in centre midfield as Town were without Dan Dolton, Stuart Vahid and Dan Wisker.
