A teenager has been arrested after a man suffered head injuries in an assault outside the Beaney museum in Canterbury last night.

The 49-year-old was taken to William Harvey Hospital shortly after the incident at about 10.30pm.

Onlookers described seeing a “pool of blood” but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

No weapon was used in the attack, which sparked a high police presence.

The victim, from Canterbury, is believed to have been punched.

He remains conscious in hospital.

Two police vans and about a dozen officers were seen in the High Street after the incident.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody.

Gazette reporter Alex Claridge was at the scene and said the victim looked unconscious.

He said: “There was a pool of blood around his head.

“It was just chaos. There were lots of people shouting.”
