Jake Leberl rejoined Dover Athletic because he feels he has "unfinished business" at Crabble.

Whites boss Andy Hessenthaler, pictured, has signed the 32-year-old defender/midfielder on a one-year contract after he was released by AFC Wimbledon – whom he helped to win the Blue Square South title last season.

And Leberl, who made nearly 200 appearances for Whites during his five years at the club between 1997-2002, said: "The only reason I left in the first place was because we had been relegated from the Conference.

"I loved it when I was first here under Bill Williams and Clive Walker, although by the time I did leave it was all a bit of a shambles what with the money problems.

"But I have always wanted to come back before I finish playing because I feel I have unfinished business here – I want to get Dover back into the Conference (top flight), which is where they were when I was first here and where they belong. When Jim Parmenter took over I knew he would get the club back on their feet."

Dover have been made 6-1 favourites to win the Blue Square South title and Leberl added: "It won’t be easy because teams like Chelmsford, Newport County, Hampton & Richmond and Eastleigh are all still there after missing out in the play-offs and they are all good sides but with the squad we’ve got we will be right up there."
