They marched 19 miles (30.6km) from Dover to Canterbury on November 7.

The sum raised by today (Thursday) was exactly £3,542.47 as shown on their crowdfunding page plus £590 through Gift Aid, a form of tax rebate for charity fundraising.

The sponsored walk was in memory of Josh Davies who died in August 2012, aged 18,

It was from outside Josh's home in Buckland Avenue, Dover, to Pilgrim's Hospice in Canterbury where he spent his last days.

It was to raise funds for the hospice and was done the day before he would have turned 28.

Walker and organiser Patrick Verrill told KentOnline today: "The amount raised was a complete surprise but it speaks volumes as to how much the hospice is valued.

"It has helped so many families so it is close to their hearts."

The remaining walkers were Jon Tinker, Alex Fagan, Alex Hanagan, Carl Deary, Issack McIntyre and Charlie Mattinson.

All seven are from Dover and Folkestone and all, except Mr McIntyre, attended St Edmund's RC School in Dover with Josh.

More events are being planned in the run-up to and around the 10th anniversary of Josh's death, which is next August 2.

These include, on August 6, a rock concert with bands such as local group Savages and a DJ.

This will be at the Phoenix Railway Social Club at Crabble Lane, Dover.

Events will also raise funds for the Emily Ash Trust which supports families who have a child, teenager or young adult with cancer and helped Josh and his relatives.
