An elderly woman smashed her car into a telegraph pole, snapping it in half.

The 90-year-old woman, who has not been named, crashed her Toyota Yaris on Lillechurch Road, near Cliffe Woods, shortly before 11am on Friday.

Her car ended up in a ditch next to the road and firefighters from Strood were called to help remove the pole and help get the woman out of the vehicle.

The woman didn't suffer life-threatening injuries during the smash but is thought to have injured her legs and neck.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The pole, which was brand new, had been snapped clean in half.

"A man with a tow truck helped stabilised the vehicle while it was in the ditch until we got there. We helped make sure the pole didn't fall any further and helped get the woman out of the car.

"She was taken to hospital by paramedics."
