Gillingham youth boss Darren Hare believes the club’s blossoming youth structure will keep them brimming with quality for years to come.

Homegrown Connor Essam, Jack Evans and Ashley Miller were regular members of the first team squad last season and Hare believes there is more to come.

"We have got some good players at the football club and it is quite exciting," said Hare. "The future is looking bright and we want to make sure they continue to develop."

Next season there will be a large contingent of young players mixing with the first team.

Six teenagers were handed additional year deals from last season’s squad, while young hot-shot Miller remains on the periphery of the first team.

An additional six players from last season’s youth team will be training with the seniors after the Gills offered third year scholarship deals for the first time.

All will be working closely with development coach Mark Patterson and youth manager Hare (pictured).

"With the new manager coming in, he will have his own ideas and he will want to bring his own players in," said Hare.

"Obviously I will be working hard with him so we can provide what he wants. I do think in two or three years we could be providing more first team players than we currently are."
