M25 jammed as lorries crash

THOUSANDS of Kent motorists were caught up in a massive traffic jam on the M25 today after a crash involving two lorries.

One of the lorries, carrying a ten-tonne concrete staircase, had pulled on to the hard shoulder because of a punctured rear tyre. A second lorry travelling on the motorway collided with the stationary vehicle.

As a result its cab became parted from its trailer. The cab then rolled over trapping the driver inside.

The driver was freed and taken to hospital with what are thought to be only slight injuries. Police said the driver of the stationary lorry was unhurt.

The crash happened shortly after 6am on the clockwise carriageway of the motorway just past Junction 6 at Godstone. At one stage tailbacks were stretching back more than nine miles.
