WAYNE JONES: Wants the team to show a fighting spirit

GILLINGHAM travel to Milton Keynes knowing they have just three games to save their Division 1 status.

With the club third from bottom and deep in the relegation fight, first team coach Wayne Jones is confident Gillingham can show their renowned fighting spirit and get themselves out of trouble.

Jones is expecting a tough battle against a Wimbeldon side already relegated and with several youngsters playing for their future.

He said: “Wimbledon were desperate for points four or five months ago and lost quite a few of their good players.

“They were fighting and scrapping and there was a little bit of tension but all of a sudden they go down and it’s almost as if that tension was lifted and they’re playing with a bit of freedom.

“We’ve got better players than them and if we play to our potential, then we can get the right result.”

The Dons’ win against Bradford last week meant they will both be in Division 2 next season and two former players, goalkeeper Steve Banks and striker Patrick Agyemang, will be doing their best to ensure their former employers don’t put a dent in Gills’ survival hopes.
