Gillingham 1 Swansea City 0

GILLINGHAM followed up their superb win over Brentford with another crucial win against promotion-chasing Swansea City at Priestfield on Saturday.

The winner came seven minutes into the second half from the penalty spot.

Matt Jarvis, who struggled to make an impact on the match in the opening 45 minutes, ghosted past Alan Tate before being up-ended by Keith Lowe in the area.

Darren Byfield took the responsibility of taking the spot-kick and he beat Willy Gueret via the underside of the crossbar.

Both sides had gone close in the first half.

Tommy Black forced a fine save from Gueret after latching on to Andrew Crofts's excellent pass, while at the other end Lee Trundle and Kristian O'Leary missed decent opportunities.

Gillingham are up to 16th in the table after this huge step towards League 1 survival.

Gillingham: Brown, Wallis, Cox, Sancho, Jackman, Black (Spiller 75), Crofts, Pouton, Jarvis, Mulligan (Harris 90), Byfield.
Subs Not Used: Crichton, Cochrane, Flynn.
Attendance: 6,909.
