C&H Fabrics

One of Maidstone's oldest stores will next week close its doors for the final time.

C&H Fabrics in Week Street will shut on Friday, March 11. The store opened in the town more than 40 years ago.

The closure comes after bosses announced the store had failed to make a profit.

In a statement published on the company's website, chairman Bryan Hamblin blamed high business rates and failed negotiations with the landlord.

He also said the board of the family-owned chain held Maidstone council partly responsible for the lack of interest and retailers in the top of area of Week Street.

All 47 members of staff have been made redundant
