Maidstone United insist that Nathan Paul is still their player, despite Bulmers Cider Kent League club Beckenham Town announcing this week he had re-signed for them.

There has been no official contact between the clubs and Stones say they were "extremely surprised" to see the story appear. They put out an immediate denial, following talks between the player and joint-manager Lloyd Hume.

Paul (pictured), twice Supporters’ Player-of-the-Year, was one of several Stones players who committed themselves to the club this season more than a month ago.

Hume said: "We had a couple of issues with Nathan which have now been resolved. I have spoken to him twice this week and he has assured me he will be with us pre-season. I am sure he will be as good as his word."

Hume also confirmed that defender Ryan Royston has re-signed, after returning from Ramsgate last season.

Stones are in talks with four players including defender Ian Cox, who hopes to be available after missing several games last season due to work commitments.

They are also targeting a central midfielder, full-back and another forward.
