Suspected drink or drug driver arrested after fleeing M20 slip road crash near Maidstone involving van and lorry

A man suspected of driving while intoxicated has been arrested after a crash which closed a motorway slip-road for two hours.

Police were called to the M20 at junction 8, near Maidstone, following reports of a collision involving a van and a lorry.

The incident happened on the slip road of the coastbound carriageway.

Officers attended the scene shortly after 1.10pm. The driver of the van had reportedly fled and the police helicopter was called in to help find him.

A man was later arrested in the ground of Leeds Castle on suspicion of leaving the scene of a collision and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

The slip-road was closed while the vehicles were recovered.

As of 2.50pm it had reopened and normal traffic conditions had resumed.
