Maidstone United’s 17-goal leading scorer Levi Amantchi puts his success down to others | Monday night football for the Stones away to Chelmsford City

Maidstone striker Levi Amantchi puts his prolific form down to those around him.

Amantchi is enjoying the season of his life, scoring 17 goals by mid-November.

The big forward, a summer signing from National North side Brackley, has never had it so good.

“It’s crazy,” he said of his goal tally.

“I’ve just got to keep humble and keep on working. It comes from all my team-mates helping me with opportunities.

“They’re supplying me and I’m taking the opportunities.

“I’m at a good club, I’ve got a good gaffer (George Elokobi) and assistant (Craig Fagan) who help me out, and the boys.

“I’m just in a good environment and it helps a lot, and I’ve got people that believe in me which is probably why I’m doing so well.”

Amantchi’s latest goal came at Dartford on Saturday when he pounced in the final seconds of added time to earn a 1-0 win in the FA Trophy.

It was a typical Amantchi goal, being alert in the box, and a classic example of why he’s so quick to praise his team-mates after Harry Kyprianou kept a cross alive at the back post.

“It was nice to get the winner but it didn’t come from me - it was all from the team,” said Amantchi.

“When Harry came on he made that goal. If he didn’t get on the end of that I don’t score.”

Maidstone are back in National League South action at Chelmsford tonight (7.45pm) as sixth hosts fifth.

It’s a quick turnaround after the Trophy game but Maidstone will be ready.

Stones boss George Elokobi said: “The players have to make sure they are switched on for Monday.

“We are going to a tough place, a tough team, a good side and we have to try and reproduce all over again and make sure we’re ready for that.”
