Drivers were not able to use the tunnel from either side from around 3.55pm until 5.30pm, according to one resident.

They told KentOnline that “a couple of houses have been damaged” as the lorry reversed out from under the bridge.

Officers attended the scene after being called just after 4.00pm on Tuesday, April 30.

The incident gained traction on social media with one person joking that it “takes a lot of bottle to try that”.

Another said: “How dairy he try and go and through that tiny hole.”
