Louis Greene will be on the road again as he defends his commonwealth title on Saturday.

The Strood super welterweight is heading back to Scotland, this time Dundee, as he faces Paul Kean (16-2) in the first defence of the title that he won in Aberdeen back in November.

Greene impressed with a comprehensive TKO victory over Dean Sutherland to win the belt and his fifth-round stoppage led the promoters looking for another opponent, rather than a rematch.

Kean, a 30-year-old southpaw, will have the home support but it’s not something that has ever fazed the ‘Medway Mauler’.

Greene’s been out to Poland twice to fend off challengers and will be heading to a noisy Caird Hall this weekend.

His coach and father John Greene said: “If it was a close fight, (with Sutherland) they would have probably had a re-match but that’s not the way it worked out so they (the promoters) came up with another opponent. Louis will be looking forward to it.

“I watched one of his previous fights, it was packed out, looked a really good atmosphere, I told him he would be in hostile territory again but he’s not bothered - he thrives off it, if anything.”

Greene’s camp aren’t looking any further than this fight coming up but he’s continually impressed and even in defeat has taken some stopping.

Another win this weekend would open up further doors, potentially for a chance on a bigger promotion.

Kean has won his last four fights, bouncing back from his defeat against Hamzah Sheeraz for the WBO European super welterweight title in July 2020, lasting six rounds before retiring.

In May last year he beat Sulaimon Olagbade at the Caird Hall venue in just two rounds to win the IBO continental title.

In preparation, Greene has been sparring with Chatham’s Grant Dennis, who is looking at fighting again with an opponent of similar stature to the Medway man.

Dennis last fought on March 17, beating Vasif Mamedov on points at the Brentwood Centre, just a month after his defeat to Danny Dignum in the WBO European middleweight title fight.
