Slythe's arrival boosts athletic club's ambitions

MEDWAY & Maidstone AC's preparations for their British League campaign have been boosted by the signing of international sprinter Paul Slythe.

The former GEC athlete, who can run 100m, 200m or 400m, was a member of England's 1998 Commonwealth Games squad and has agreed to switch to M&M from Newham & Essex Beagles.

Former Medway AC 400m runner Paul Curtis has also agreed to link-up with M&M from Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers.

Senior men's team manager John Taylor is confident the team will be able to hold their own in Division 4 next season. He said: "We are very pleased with the additions we have made to the squad. But we still need to strengthen in the shot, discus and jumps."
