Estate agent returns to his roots

AN ESTATE agent whose family goes back more than 100 years on Romney Marsh has returned to work in New Romney with Ward & Partners.

Steve Hutchens includes the 1980s singer Adam Ant among his cousins and comes from several generations of farm workers.

Mr Hutchens, who lives in New Romney, said: “Knowledge of the land is literally in my bones. My view of estate agency is that if you know the area you live in, you can offer people a much better service.

“You are selling homes, not houses - and homes which often have personal meaning or memories for you.”

Mr Hutchens began his career for Ward & Partners nearly 20 years ago as a trainee negotiator at Hythe.

After managing three offices at New Romney, Dymchurch and Lydd, he was promoted to senior branch manager at the Folkestone and Dover branches of Ward & Partners.
