Sheppey Crossing to close for repairs over the weekend

Motorists are facing more disruption when the Sheppey Crossing closes again this weekend.

Further repairs will mean the main route off the Island will be shut from 8pm tonight (Friday) to 11am on Sunday.

The A249 will be closed from the new Cowstead Corner roundabout to the Iwade junction and vehicles will be diverted via the Kingsferry Bridge and Sheppey Way.

It follows long queues and congestion on and off the Island as well as in and around Iwade when the bridge was closed for repair work in April and earlier this month.

The Highways Agency says these times were chosen because traffic levels will be at their lowest.

The work was originally scheduled for November but had to be put back due to bad weather.
