Man arrested after 'armed robbery' at Thomas Cook, Mount Pleasant Road, Tunbridge Wells

Police investigating a reported armed robbery at a Tunbridge Wells travel agent have arrested a man.

The 32-year-old from Orpington was taken into custody after Thomas Cook in Mount Pleasant Road was allegedly robbed on Friday morning.

Staff called police to say they had been threatened by a man holding a black handgun.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the crime, said to have taken place at 11.35am.

A quantity of currency was stolen from the premises and the suspect is reported to have left the scene on foot.

It is believed he later got into a blue Renault Clio, which turned onto the London Road from Lime Hill Road.

The car was last seen heading in the direction of Crowborough.

The suspect is described as white, approximately 5ft 6in tall and of medium build.

He spoke with an English accent, had brown hair and an unshaven face, police said.

Nobody is reported to have been injured during the robbery.

The man has been bailed until October 24.
